Currently, StoryBuilder has a form that allows you to embed some online media into your story. Currently the online media that is supported through this form is the following:
To use this form you simply just need to copy the url to the media and paste it into the form. StoryBuilder then takes care of building the proper embed code and showing the media in your story.
While this is cool, it in no way covers all of the possible types or sources of media on the web. What about maps, charts, spreadsheets, images and everything else that could possibly be included in a story? Currently, the StoryBuilder online media embed form does not support these, but it is still possible to include these items in your story.
Another form that you can use while building stories is the text form. This form, obviously, allows you to enter the text of your story. It also provides the ability to include pictures and any online media. The downside of using this approach is that the pictures and online media will be constrained to the width of the text section - they will not fill up the full width of the screen.
To add pictures to your text, look at the rows of icons above the text box and click on the green icon in the second row. In the pop-up window, select your image and click the 'Insert' button. You should now see your picture in the text box. You can now scale the size of the image and also align the image.
Embeding online media takes a few steps. Again, looking at the row of icons above the text box, click on the 'HTML' icon at the end of the second row. This opens a pop-up window that shows you what your text looks like in HTML format. Place the cursor where you want to insert the online media. Now go to the website that has the online media and copy the embed code. Come back to the HTML pop-up window and paste the embed code. Click the 'Update' button at the bottom and the online media should now be showing in the text box.
We know that this is not the ideal way to add online media to your story and we will address this issue in future updates to the site.
